Classification Rules for Polar Expeditions
Antarctic Crossings/Return unsupported and unassisted
John Wilton-Davis – solo and return – 2260 km
British John Wilton-Davis will attempt to ski from Hercules Inlet to the South Pole and back in 77 days. John will start off with a sled that weighs 180 kg and place depots along the way.

Armin Wirth - ? km
German Armin Wirth will start from NOVO base and ski to the South Pole with kite support and may go beyond the Pole.

ALE/Northwinds - return - 2260 km
Sarah McNair will lead an ALE/Northwinds expedition from Hercules to the Pole and kite back without resupplies. Among the three clients is cancer survivor Tom Davenport.

Two British Doctors, Rob Conway, 30, an insulin dependent diabetic and Toby Williams, 24, are going for the pole "and beyond."

Tommy Eriksson – Antarctic Peninsula – Vinson - ??km
Swedish Tommy Eriksson is currently sailing to Antarctica on a small, home built "icebreaker." He plans to anchor at the shore, ski-sled across the broken ice, climb Mount Vinson, ski back to his boat and sail home.

The Moon-Regan Trans Antarctic Expedition will cross the continent supported by a Lotus built Concept Ice Vehicle (CIV) and two six-wheel drive Ford E250 vans to educate the world about climate change.

Cristian Donoso - 885 km - kayak
In December 2008, Rolex Awards Laureate Chilean lawyer Cristian Donoso, 31, and friends will travel aboard the Antarctic Dream Cruise Ship to the Antarctic Peninsula to make a 550 miles self-supported kayak journey visiting the Palmer Archipelago and the Danco Coast to explore climate change.

Michele Pontrandolfo - Patagonian icecap - 460 km
Italian explorer, Michele Pontrandolfo, is attempting a solo crossing of the Southern Patagonian Icecap. He left Italy on 21 August and estimates that his 460 km route will take two months.

Duncan Chessell is doing a traverse of Mt Vinson and an attempt to climb Shinn and Tyree. Jamie McGuinness is one of the team members - out of Nepal for the first time in years!

Leaving from Cape Town, the Amundsen Omega SP race led by Patrick Woodhead will ski the last 420 nm to the Pole, and so will Brain Douds.

Ice Axe Expedition
Doug Stoup will lead an Ice Axe expedition the last 100 miles from 88.26 to the GSP with 5 Canadians, using ALE for logistics. Doug will also guide two last degree teams (11 Brits and 2 French) to the North Pole in April.
