Arktos Expedition:

Arktos Expedition - Mike Horn update

January 27, 2003 - The Arktos Adventure will take Mike Horn on a fantastic adventure, literally around the world. His aim is to follow the Polar Circle circumnavigating the North Pole. Mike began his journey in August 2002 when he left North Cape, Norway heading west towards the eastcoast of Greenland. The journey is estimated to last for at least 18 months in total. He will travel on foot, skis or by boat and is currently located in north-east Canada.

After the fire

Mike Horn has now spent ten days at Igloolik after his tent caught fire and he was forced to relocate and take a break in his circumnavigation of the Polar Circle. Luckily Mike managed to avoid injury in the fire but almost all his equipment was destroyed. His logistic team has now replaced everything and Mike is very happy with the clothing and equipment.

"After all these months in the cold, I now believe I have the best clothing and equipment, and the experience to help me though these extreme climatic conditions. I only take the bare minimum, but just enough."

Terrible blizzard

Now Mike has returned to the Fury and Hecla Strait. He was left by his Inuit friend Simon at Cape Englefield, the northernmost point of Melville Peninsula, in north-east Canada. But things did not stay calm for long as a terrible blizzard has hit the region and Mike is unable to move due to bad visibility and extreme cold. As soon as the weather gets better he will be back on track again.
