April 14, 2003 - The North Pole Challenge team is heading towards the Pole but were caught in a storm over the weekend. The wind has been blowing strong from the North and they have not had much time to write dispatches as they had difficulties finding their way out of the maze of fractured ice in the white-out. By Sunday the storm had blown over and the three could gaze out once more upon the amazing frozen scene outside their tent. Clearing rumble fields
Their latest position is 89 14 04 N and 121 50 15 E with temperatures
at around 32 degrees below zero. They have now cleared an area of rumble
fields and is consequently in high spirits. The ice conditions here tend
to be very difficult with plates of ice coming together creating walls of
sea ice. Progress is very slow through this and there still remain 85 km
before reaching the Pole. | |||||
