April 17, 2003 - The North Pole Challenge team struggles on towards the North Pole. Their latest position was latitude 89 25 26.3 longitude 116 30 10.3 and there remain 64,2 miles to the Pole. The ice drift is currently strong towards the south so they have to work very hard to counteract it. The wind is coming in from the north and is refreshing. Down into the ocean below
The ice yesterday was incredible, some patches were frozen so clear
that they could almost see down into the ocean below. The terrain has been
quite flat with some small pressure ridges. They set up camp near some
leads and rubble fields. The going is tough with the constant drift
southwards but they just have to keep going. | |||||
