Pen Hadow solo expedition

April 3, 2003 - Pen Hadow is pushing forward on his quest to reach the North Pole. The latest progress report came from this Sunday, his 11th day of walking. By then Pen had managed 42,5 nautical miles in total. The weather was sunny but quite cold with temperatures at 40 degrees below zero.

Not many open leads

Pen has by now gotten into his stride and only telephones in every other day in order to save time and battery power. The weekend went well in all with large pans and only small ridges. As the day went the pressure ridges became higher but there were no open leads.
