Polar Race 2003

 

April 8, 2003 - With only one day remaining the start of the Polar Race 2003 draws near. The teams are currently out on the ice for final training. They will start from Resolute Bay, Canada and then the 350 miles towards the Magnetic North Pole. On Sunday the entourage arrived in Resolute Bay and the South Camp Inn which is their base there.

Polar Bear deterrent

Everyone is busy with last minute preparations for the race and the teams slept out on the Sea Ice. Their training also focus on Polar Bear deterrent, navigation, communications and emergency procedures. The weather is currently clear and sunny with temperatures around minus 25 degrees. The tension is building up as the teams are anxious to get going.
