Polar Race 2003

April 15, 2003 - The Polar Race is taking place right now as the four teams compete over the trophy. As things stand now the Initial Style Explorers and the Polar team are in the lead with the Extreme Steps and the ViP3 teams about 15 km behind. Very bad weather has put a stop to their progress though. A high wind, a wind chill of minus 46 degrees centigrade and white out conditions made the two latter teams decide to stay put in their tents.

Unpredictable Arctic weather

So while on the ice the two teams are getting some rest and await the worst of the storm to blow over before continuing. The weather can change very quickly in the Arctic as the weather in Resolute Bay, only 50 miles away is bright and sunny. Everyone is eager to get going as quickly as possible, the race is still on. There remains about 230 miles before they reach the finish line.
