April
15, 2003 -
25 year-old Briton Ben Saunders is on the ice! He was dropped
off on the night of April 13th at Borneo, a high Arctic Russian
airstrip. He has been traveling for two days and covered 9 miles
today.
Ben is skiing a solo return journey to the Pole and will finish back
at Borneo, from where he initially started.
Ben's
first two live dispatches and pictures from the high-Arctic using Contact
2.0 software with PDA:
April 15
Covered 9 miles today in 7 hours of skiing. Definitely moving faster than in 2001 - it was -20 today yet I was fine trundling along in sunglasses & earband! I've decided I do feel lonely at times, but in a good way - I'm appreciating how much some people mean to me...
Onwards!!
Apr 14. Alone on the ice...
Near whiteout this morning & there was a moment just as I set off when I wanted to turn around, head for the
safely of the other tents & admit I couldn't do it...
My mum always used to say ,'there's no such word as 'can't'' & today she was right once again. Beautiful day, nearly 10 miles in the
bag.
