Another Aussie for the Pole
12:38 p.m. EDT Oct 17, 2003
Earlier this season we reported on the Ice Maidens, three Aussie Sheila's going for the South Pole next year. Yet Australia will have a representative on the ice this year already.
Starting out November, Rob Porcaro 43, will attempt to be the first Australian to trek 1300km unassisted from Berkner Island to the South Pole.
Earlier reports indicated that Cerpolex were the only organizers to Berkner. With that setup forced to bail out only yesterday, the question now emerges how Rob will get to his starting point.
Rob has a website "Lasso the Moon" and is undertaking this expedition in order to raise awareness of depression, a debilitating illness which currently affects 1:5 Australians and is predicted to become the second greatest cause of premature death and disability worldwide by 2020.
