First we take Greenland, then we take the Pole

In December 2004, the Outdoor Education Team of West Nottinghamshire College will head an expedition to the South Pole. Before they ship out, however, they will be just a little bit north; on the Greenland ice cap.
The team arrived yesterday in good weather, but today they are being pounded by a storm.
“After yesterday's great weather we are now sitting out a windy day. The wind is gusting up to 40 knots. Further on in the trip we will move in such conditions, but at present both Paul and I think it is best to stay put. In such conditions at this early stage the risk of kit loss is great. We waited until 1 o'clock to make the decision.
It is fantastic out though. So we sit and read, tell jokes and venture out to dig the tent out. Paul has been round the tents and let everyone know we move tomorrow, a 'storm' move as he calls it. Temperature is a good 7 degrees in the tent.”
In December 2004, the Outdoor Education Team of West Nottinghamshire College will head an expedition to the South Pole. A team of one trained member of staff and up to three students will ski-trek the 700 miles from Patriot Hills, Antarctica, to the South Pole.
A second trained member of staff, together with a student from the college's program for students with learning difficulties, will join the main expedition for the 'last degree'.
At the moment the team is in Greenland, taking part in an acclimatization ski-trek across the Greenland Icecap.
The Team: Gary Dodds, Steve Bull, Carl Alvey, Robert Dunn, and James Trehane
