Mike Horn crosses half way mark
13:51 p.m. EDT Jul 27, 2003
60km before the north Alaskan village of Barrow, Mike is now in a direct line across the pole from his starting point, the North Cape in Norway, where he started out 4th of August, 2002. In less than a year, Mike has covered half of the distance required to complete his circuit around the Arctic Circle.

Says Mike: "I have been having really bad weather with strong winds from the west making progress nearly impossible. Breaking waves have been slowing my progress down and I have been thrown around in all directions . As soon as I stop paddling, I get blown back by the wind."

Mike reports that he has open water all the way to Barrow now and if the weather improves he should reach there fast. He currently paddles through snow and rain, in temps ranging from pleasant to falling below 0 degrees. The wind can swing 360 degrees in 30 minutes.

Mike Horn departed August 2002 from North Cape on his epic Arktos mission. His goal is to circumnavigate the Polar Circle. During the trip his logistic team is meeting up with him to re-supply with medication, equipment and food. The expedition is expected to last 18 months.
