North Pole Dominick quick update: Wednesday search is on
13:17 p.m. EST Mar 29, 2004
If everything goes to plan in terms of weather, the search for Wednesday is on. One piece of good news is that the Russian search pilots have offered the possibility to extend the search from 10 hours to 13 hours! We will continuously keep you updated as new information arrives.
The local search authorities, Dominick's friends, sponsor, the polar community and our team are all in constant phone calls and e-mails to each other to maximize the results. At this point, we are doing everything in our power to leave nothing bud Gods will to chance this Wednesday.
Another word from our readers:
"Dear Team,
Dominick's journey hasn't made much news here in America, but I became fascinated with her quest and have followed her expedition closely, including her disappearance. I think it's never too much to hope, and although pure logic suggests that Dominick didn't survive, I hold out hope for her re-emergence from the ice. I believe she's a very intelligent, brave and determined woman and I admire her greatly. I also would like to send out best wishes and hope to everyone who's looking for her, and pray to the Great Spirit for her family and friends. Here's one American who cares. Kind Regards, Kathleen"
Five expeditions set out for a North Pole expedition this year, all from the Russian side. A big open water lead just off the starting point posed the first immediate problem for this years expeditions. Two solo skiers, French/Finnish woman Dominick and Frenchman Frederic decided to ski/paddle across the huge, 55 km semi open water area, in an attempt for a clean North Pole expedition (which must start from land). The other teams opted for an air drop onto thick ice.
Frederic Chamard-Boudet, fell in the water and was rescued. He is treated for severe frostbite. Dominick is missing since March 5th. Her tracks were found disappearing in an open water section, which she had planned to paddle over. No traces of Dominick, her kayak, sleds or other gear have been found.
