Dutch Marc Cornelissen, American Doug Stoup and Norwegian Petter Nyquist will join forces for a North Pole expedition this spring. The team also want to raise awareness on the global warming and will place out a number of weather beacons on the ice.

Early start

The skiers will start out from Russia, hoping that an early start will help them to avoid the problem of open water. They aim for an unsupported full trip, but the objectives are not firm; "it will depend on circumstances, like the weather," says Marc.

New pulk design

The team will also sport new pulks of Marc's own design - 260 cm long, built in one rounded piece, with wider runners to improve their stability in the moment of hauling them over pressure ridges and rubble areas.

End April at the Pole

The team will leave Holland on February 16 and start out from Cape Artichesky in northern Russia already on February 23. They have a fixed date of arrival at the Pole, on April 27.

Marc Cornelissen, expedition leader, is a professional adventurer and organizer of expeditions. At Antarctica, Marc Cornelissen and Wilco Van Rooijen skied to the SP from Patriot Hills and then kited back without resupplies.

Doug Stoup has been involved in many tasks over the years. In 2000 he reached the Geographic South Pole on skis as a guide of a supported team. Last fall Doug climbed Ama Dablam in Nepal.

Petter Nyquist has taken part in several shorter Arctic expeditions, and crossed the Greenland ice cap. Petter plans a back to back polar attempt, skiing to the South Pole by the end of the year.
